Study published on the lifespan quality performance of Biodiesel along the logistics chain

Biodiesel does not have a negative impact on the filterability of Diesel fuel – this is the resumé of a study of the Association Quality Management Biodiesel (AGQM) which was now completed in cooperation with the mineral oil companies Total Deutschland GmbH and OMV AG. Diesel fuel according to standard DIN EN 590 contains Biodiesel of up to 7 % V/V.

It was the objective of this study to examine any possible quality changes of Biodiesel during its entire lifespan and to assess a potential risk for it impairing the filterability of Diesel fuel.

The study now presented shows that this assumption is unfounded. On the basis of defined test methods Biodiesel (from production to storage and transport) as well as the Diesel (used for the blend) were tested with regard to their filterability. All fuels produced of those components were of good quality; during the course of this study Biodiesel showed no impact on the finished blend. In general the filterability was good in all cases tested.

AGQM dealt intensively with the issues of filterability and has already published two project reports concerning this problem before. Those studies as well as the current one are available as downloads free of charge at www.agqm.de.

The Association Quality Management Biodiesel (AGQM) was founded in 1999 with the objective to introduce concepts of quality management for Biodiesel and represents today the entire production and marketing chain of Biodiesel. AGQM is engaged in research projects of different application options of Biodiesel and its side products. With the BPAC certification system AGQM offers a quality management system on international level.
