Safe Additivation of Biodiesel

Due to the successful completion of the 11th no-harm test round for oxidation stabilizers for Biodiesel four new additives were added to the no-harm list of Association Quality Management Biodiesel e.V. (AGQM).

To comply with the required oxidation stability of 8 h, antioxidants are added to biodiesel. Besides the achieved oxidation stability, the attention has to be drawn to possible negative interactions of the additives with fossil Diesel fuel, its additives and the engine oil that must be avoided.

In cooperation with the mineral oil industry, AGQM has developed a demanding test procedure to ensure a safe additivation of biodiesel with oxidation stabilizers. In this 11th test round of the so-called no-harm test, four additives passed successfully and could be added to the no-harm list:

Xtendra BL100 (CFS do Brasil)

Xtendra BL200 (CFS do Brasil)

Baynox Ultra (LANXESS Deutschland GmbH)

Pachem-BL (Pachemtech sp z o.o.)

Biodiesel producers can now choose from a total of 51 tested oxidation stabilizers from 28 producers. The list of all products that passed the test successfully can be found here. The test report including all products tested so far can also be ordered there. Information to the 12th test round which will probably start in autumn 2017 can be requested under info@agqm‑biodiesel.de.
