First No-Harm Test for Biodiesel Flow Improvers

Association Quality Management Biodiesel (AGQM) launches the new no-harm test for flow improvers for use in fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) as fuel component.


In cooperation with the mineral oil and additive industry, the Association Quality Management Biodiesel (AGQM) has developed a test procedure to ensure the interaction-free additivation of biodiesel with flow improvers (BDFI).
Registrations for this new and particularly demanding no-harm test for flow improvers in biodiesel as fuel component are available by 31 May 2019 at vasbnnnanesnnnntdz-ovbqvrfry.qr.
The no-harm test for flow improvers consists of two test parts. On the one hand, minimum requirements such as lowering of the Cold Filter Plugging Point (CFPP), ash content, flashpoint, total contamination and interaction tests with other BDFI in pure FAME are determined. On the other hand, the program includes tests in a B10 fuel specially developed for the no-harm test. It already contains high levels of flow improvers (MDFI) and anti-settling agents (WASA) so that the additive to be tested is tested in a worst-case scenario with regard to filterability, engine oil compatibility, corrosion, foam and emulsion formation and an XUD9 engine test. At the same time, this ensures comparability between future and current no-harm tests.
If an additive meets all requirements, it will be added to the new no-harm list for flow improvers, which will be publicly available on the AGQM website.
