DEUTZ Approves Engines for Operation with Biodiesel

The Union zur Förderung von Oel- und Proteinpflanzen e.V. (UFOP) welcomes the approval issued by Deutz AG for biodiesel as a clean fuel (B100) for the Agripower engines of series TCD 6.1 L6 and TCD 7.8 L6. With exhaust stage Tier IIIb, the high requirements in respect to engine technology applicable under emission law in the off-road area will also be fulfilled.

The Deutz-Common-Rail-System utilised for this engine series has an output of 2000 bar. The exhaust gas standard is fulfilled with turbocharging and charge-air cooling as well as the additional use of an SCR system in combination with a urea solution for the reduction of NOx to N2 (ad blue). Deutz AG is the first engine manufacturer to issue an approval for B100 in regard to this exhaust stage.

This approval was proceeded by extensive field tests aimed at verifying biodiesel suitability as part of a project scope funded by UFOP. DEUTZ points out that only biodiesel as specified by DIN EN 14214 may be used. From the viewpoint of UFOP, the DEUTZ move recommending that its customers have the quality of the biodiesel certified by a certificate from the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Qualitätsmanagement Biodiesel e.V. (AGQM) – www.agqm-biodiesel.de – is also a welcoming development. That means DEUTZ also recognises the activities of the AGQM members, who not only ensure biodiesel quality but also continuously improve this. The high quality level of the AGQM biodiesel has recently been confirmed as part of the comprehensive study “Brief Study for the Evaluation of Metal, Phosphorous and Sulphur Contents in Biodiesel”.
