Waste-based Biodiesel - Between Senseless Restriction and Aviation Threat

The Article from Angel Alvarez Alberdis (EWABA – European Waste-to-Advanced Biofuels Association) in the current Biofuels International summarizes the possible consequences of the implementation of the RED II for waste-based biodiesel. On the one hand, as Part B of Annex IX they are limited to 1.7%, on the other hand non-differentiating incentives are set in aviation combined with a possible double counting. In this context, the issue of raw material availability is explicitly pointed out.

The United Kingdom, which relies heavily on biodiesel from UCO and animal fat, has excluded these raw materials from the incentives for aviation for development fuels.

The EWABA argues that the national authorities should follow the British example in the implementation of the RED II.
