Stagnating biodiesel sales despite higher GHG quota

In Germany, the greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction was raised from 3.5 to 4 percent at the beginning of the year. Diesel consumption was increased as well but the Biodiesel consumption has fallen again. This is probably due to the very good GHG reduction potential of biodiesel (compared to fossil Diesel) which was raised from 65.3 to 71.5 percent in the last years. Now less biodiesel is necessary to reach the required GHG reduction. The Union for the Promotion of Oil and Protein Plants (Union zur Förderung von Oel- und Proteinpflanzen, UFOP) states that the potential of decarbonization is not being fully exhausted by the current quota.
