Saipol cuts biodiesel production due to Argentinian imports
Biodiesel producer Saipol, subsidiary of Avril, announced to cut down biodiesel production and rapeseed crushing due to the reopening of the European market to Argentinian biodiesel imports. About 1.75 million metric tons of soybean biodiesel from Argentina could be imported to Europe per year. It can be sold at a price that is equal to or lower than the price of raw rapeseed oil used to produce biodiesel because of the lowered import duties and state support in Argentina. They stated that the French biodiesel sector will be unable to deal with this “unfair competition” if no countermeasures are implemented.
