The Netherlands: 18 new biodiesel fueled trains

The new contract to operate the passenger rail service in the northern part of the Netherlands for 15 years from December 2020 went to Arriva. Eighteen new trains will be added to their current fleet of 51 trains, all fueled by biodiesel. Biodiesel is seen as a precursor to eventually transitioning to an emissions free electrical network.
