Biodiesel and bioethanol protect the climate

The study "Greenhouse gas savings from biofuels in Germany" commissioned by the Verband der Deutschen Biokraftstoffindustrie e.V. (VDB) shows that biofuels from cultivated biomass deliver considerable GHG savings compared to their fossil counterparts, even when indirect effects are included. Statements that biofuels from cultivated biomass allegedly emit even more greenhouse gases than fossil fuels could thus be refuted. According to the study, the use of biodiesel can reduce CO2 emissions by around 60% on average compared to fossil diesel, taking indirect effects into account.
