Biofuels are expected to stay main renewables in transport

The International Energy Agency released their Renewables 2017 report. Biofuels are still expected to represent over 90% of the renewable energy used in transport by 2022 although the sales of electric vehicles rise. Biofuel production is expected to rise by over 16% in this period with Asia taking the lead because of feedstocks availability and supportive government policies. In the European Union a modest growth is expected. With a more favourable market and policies globally, biofuels production could even be 13% higher. Also with this best-case scenario renewables in road transport would only reach 5% by 2022.
