Fuel efficiency improvements 2016

Recently published data from the European Environment Agency (EEA) show that in 2016 the fuel efficiency of new cars in the European Union continued to improve but at a slower rate. The average CO2 emissions of a new car were 118 g CO2/km. With a reduction of 1.4 g CO2/km compared to 2015 this was the smallest improvement recorded since 2006. A total of 14.7 million new passenger cars were registered in Europe in 2016. Diesel cars were the most sold ones with 49.4% followed by petrol vehicles (47%) and alternatively fueled vehicles (3.3%, incl. electric vehicles).
